The motorcycle BMW R 1200 GS Adventure LEGO Technic is not only a fun kit that consists of 603 piecesIt is also the result of the successful and creative collaboration between BMW Motorrad, BMW Junior Company and LEGO Technic, which also create a futuristic model motorcycle as a life size reproduction, called Hover Ride Design Concept.
The idea of developing a detailed LEGO reproduction of the successful BMW R 1200 GS Adventure model quickly became something else. The design teams of the two companies decided to join forces to create an alternative model as commonly provided in LEGO 2-in-1 kits. Therefore, the parts of the BMW R 1200 GS Adventure from LEGO Technic can also be used to build the Hover Ride Design Concept. In addition, the BMW Junior Company – an innovative training unit of the BMW Group – turned the Hover Ride included in the set into an elaborately produced real-size replica.

Fun in making the model with exact details
The BMW R 1200 GS Adventure has been available as a detailed replica on LEGO Technic since January 1, 2017. The BMW R 1200 GS Adventure by LEGO Technic reproduces the shapes and mechanisms of the original life-size original in the most faithful possible. Connoisseurs are delighted with the authentic suspension on the BMW Telelever front wheels, the cardan shaft and the BMW Motorrad 2-cylinder boxer engine. All these elements are started as soon as the motorcycle moves. With this wealth of details, it is not only a realistic reproduction, but also an attractive challenge in the manufacture of the model with its 603 pieces.
The BMW R 1200 GS Adventure is the first LEGO Technic model that is created in cooperation with a motorcycle manufacturer. "BMW Motorrad approached the LEGO Group with the idea of a collaboration because the two companies have much in common: both successfully combine innovation and tradition in their brands and products, providing unforgettable experiences for young people and adults around the world", it states Heiner Faust, Sales and Marketing Director of BMW Motorrad.

The two design teams also used their ingenious style to create the LEGO Technic Hover Ride, the alternative model included in the kit. This model is a futuristic concept – full of emotion and creative energy without claiming technological plausibility. "It was a great idea and a very creative challenge to develop a fictitious model of the parts of the LEGO Technic BMW R 1200 GS Adventure set. Our concept not only incorporates the BMW Motorrad design DNA with typical elements such as the boxer engine and the GS silhouette feature, but also uses the stylistic language of LEGO Technic", it states Alexander Buckan, BMW Motorrad Vehicle Design Director.
Sophisticated model manufacturing with BMW Junior Company Munich
The Hover Ride Design Concept emerged as a result of the participation of BMW Junior Company Munich, an innovative training unit in which BMW trainees from various departments have the opportunity to work together on projects in an entrepreneurial way. BMW trainees in the second to fourth year of their course used the serial production parts of the BMW R 1200 GS Adventure to build a life-size model of the LEGO Technic Hover Ride. Several components – such as the front wheel modified to form a propeller – were specially made for the project, demonstrating the artistic abilities of the young people. “It was incredibly inspiring to see colleagues from different disciplines working with our apprentices. Everyone involved in this project learned a lot, ”says Markus Kollmannsperger, technical model manufacturing trainer.
The life-size model of the Hover Ride Design Concept was first presented at the LEGO World in Copenhagen yesterday, 16.2.2017. He will then travel through Denmark to various sites, such as the BMW Group Research and Innovation Center in Munich and the BMW Welt.
